about

The key to understanding the music of Maćko Korba can be found in Steve Reich’s version of American minimalism as well as traditional Polish music. Loops, trance and minimalism are attributes that excellently describe both the compositions of the greatest contemporary Jewish composer – Steve Reich – and folk melodies from the Polish countryside. Maćko Korba interprets this link between folk music and contemporary minimalism in a creative and surprising manner with the aid of a hurdy-gurdy and a Hutsul drum. In Maćko Korba’s compositions, it is possible to hear the little known link between Polish folk music and Jewish music from rural areas, a link not only based on mutual inspirations, but also on joint performances and participation in important folk ceremonies and rites.
